Summer Program 2018

Concordia Conservatory offers a wide variety of camps, classes and lessons for early childhood, youth and adults. Classes focus on community-building and provide a fun environment for musical and artistic growth.

4-Week Program

June 25-July 20

Chamber Music

Available AM, PM, or Full day
Chamber music offers the opportunity for students to participate in small, conductorless musical ensembles based on instrument and experience level. Students receive coachings from faculty and counselors throughout the day, while at times directing themselves. Repertoire from all different musical styles is explored, from ancient music through contemporary, jazz, and rock. Students have the chance to perform in multiple groups with a variety of other instrumentalists. This setting provides a fun social atmosphere where participants gain vital skills applicable to music and well beyond. Students participate in two concerts at the end of the fourth week.

Minimum one year of experience on an instrument.

Suzuki Violin, Cello, and Guitar

Available AM or Full day.  After hours enrichment available.
Designed to provide study in the philosophy and methods of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, Concordia Conservatory offers summer Suzuki classes for violin, cello, and guitar. The program includes small group lessons organized by level, music and movement, larger ensembles, and musicianship. Children learn by ear, repetition and encouragement, and perform for parents and other Conservatory students at our end-of-program concert.

Open to students of all ages from beginner to advanced level.

Vocal Arts

PM Session Only

The Vocal Arts offering is a nurturing environment where students learn to express themselves through song and movement as they explore the Broadway and American Songbook repertoire. Students study music theory, sight singing, improv acting, performance practice, and have weekly private lessons and coachings, culminating in a Cabaret performance of solos and ensemble scenes. A perfect way to improve vocal technique and musicality.

Open to students of all ages from beginner to advanced level.

Great Beginnings Piano

Available AM or Full day.  After hours enrichment available.
Children are offered the basics of piano playing, and are introduced to listening skills and the fundamental elements of rhythm, melody and notation. The program progresses through a piano and theory method book, and students perform with other Conservatory students on an evening concert.

Rock Band

PM Session Only
Students work together with faculty to form a band, learn songs and perform a fully-staged rock concert in the Schoenfeld Campus Center at the end of the program …with some fun and games along the way. These are real rock bands with real instruments performing the greatest hits from classic to modern rock and pop music. Learn the music of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Radiohead, Greenday, The Foo Fighters and many more great bands.
Open to students with a minimum of one year private lessons.

Songwriting & Composition

Available AM, PM, or Full day
The Conservatory’s summer Songwriting & Composition program offers students the opportunity to explore and refine their compositional skills. Students receive private composition lessons, classes in analysis, score-reading, theory, and aural skills, and the opportunity to collaborate with professional musicians in creating new works. During the program, students write pieces for small ensembles which are then performed and recorded in a full evening concert, providing an invaluable learning tool and record of their achievement.
