Update 9-16-20: Quarantine Diaries may now be viewed here on Concordia's YouTube channel.
The Sluberski Film Series will open its 2020-2021 season with an original film created by Concordia’s new media students. Quarantine Diaries is a compelling look at the spring 2020 quarantine, told through the lived experience of Concordia’s notably diverse, globally representative students.
The film will premiere digitally at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 15, followed by a Zoom Q&A with Professor Kit Fitzgerald, Director of New Media, new media student Tobias Lentz, editor of the film, and other new media students. The discussion will be moderated by Sluberski Film Series director Travis Basso.
Quarantine Diaries includes the work of over 30 new media students. In March of 2020 the pandemic sent them back to homes spanning from New York City and around the USA to India, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Mexico and Columbia.
Professor Kit Fitzgerald said: “The students’ assignment was to create a weekly video quarantine diary – in effect, to create a short film every week. Students responded beyond my wildest expectations. This anthology film is a collective portrait of their lives, passions, doubts, fears, inspirations, and dreams throughout this unique time.”
The film will become part of Concordia College’s archives, enduring as a contemporary history of a generation-defining time.
