New Media Program Holds its 9th Annual Concordia Oscars

The red carpet was out for the 9th Annual Concordia College Oscars last night, celebrating the best in New Media. The annual year-end celebration, screening, and awards ceremony is hosted by New Media Communications and Digital Production. In this program, students create media in multiple areas - documentaries, web design, social media, photography, motion graphics, public service announcements, and music and narrative videos. The student work is juried each year by a panel of media professionals.

Professor Kit Fitzgerald, Director of New Media, said: “This year we see an ambitious development in two areas in particular – documentaries addressing the issues of the day, and web design and marketing. Students explored New York City, urban subcultures, fashion, and issues critical to their generation. The work is of a highly professional caliber and some will be entered into student film festivals.”

Concordia’s New Media program offers tracks in Production, Graphic Design, and Marketing. The curriculum is grounded in the study of digital technologies and their new modes of communication within a liberal arts education, with emphasis on ethical and social awareness. Facilities are state-of-the art and prepare student to compete in the digital marketplace. Students are connected to the real world of media through courses, field trips, and internships, connecting with professionals and resources locally, in New York City, and the Tri-state area. New Media enrolls a wide number of international students, making it possible even within the classroom to gain a larger understanding of media from a global perspective.

The Oscar-winning works and more New Media productions are on display in the 2019 Student Exhibition of New Media and Art in the OSilas Gallery until May 19, 2019.
