Dr. William Salva, Ed.D., Dean of the School of Business, Dean of Adult Education and Faculty Athletics Representative, participated with other renowned faculty experts in the NCAA Division II FAR Fellows Institute, held last weekend at NCAA Headquarters in Indianapolis, IN.
In the 10th Division II FAR Fellows Institute, Dr. Salva was one of 24 athletics representatives selected to develop an enhanced understanding of the roles and critical functions of a Division II Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR). Presentations and discussions covered leadership and collaboration skills, the role of the FAR in communications among different campus constituencies, and protection of student welfare, with a special emphasis on mental health and well-being. Highlights included presentations from representatives of the Sports Science Institute of the NCAA, psychologists, athletic trainers, and other experts on a variety of topics including policies and protocols around concussions and the return of student-athletes to classrooms.
In his role as Faculty Athletics Representative, Dr. Salva is responsible for a number of activities related to institutional control of intercollegiate athletics at Concordia College New York. Dr. Salva has served as the FAR of Concordia College New York for four years.
