Books & Coffee: Mary Calvi, Author of Dear George, Dear Mary

September 26

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Sommer Center

Join Mary Calvi, WCBS-NY news anchor, first lady of Yonkers, and author of Dear George, Dear Mary, along with MSNBC news anchor and descendant of George Washington Alex Witt as they discuss Mary's fascinating historical novel about young Colonel George Washington and his first love, wealthy colonial heiress Mary Eliza Philipse. Calvi's curiosity about the colonial American history hidden in her hometown of Yonkers, the seat of the wealthy Philipse family in colonial America, led her to sort through thousands of letters, publications, journal entries, witness accounts, and other documents. Historical figures including Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Daniel Boone, and Nathan Hale help weave an intricately told story of love, deception, and vengeance. Prepare to be swept away into the 1700s, from breathtaking scenes of New York's polite society to battlefield victories in Harlem and beyond.
