World Music Concert: Music of Puerto Rico featuring Carlos Jimenez

A native of Yonkers, NY, Carlos Jimenez is a jazz and Latin flute player, following in the footsteps of greats such as Dave Valentin and Hubert Laws. Carlos’ musical passion began at the age of four, when under the guidance of his father he learned to play the trumpet. Carlos and his family returned to their native city of Villalba, Puerto Rico, when he was six years old. Carlos was able to continue his musical training in Puerto Rico, and eventually gained admission to the prestigious Francisco Zayas Santana High School, where he studied with the famous maestro Professor Pablo Leon. In 1995, Carlos returned to New York City to study at the Music Conservatory of Westchester. There he expanded his repertoire to jazz, studying flute private classes with master musicians Mario Rivera, Dave Valentin, Bobby Porcelli, Mitch Frohman, Vinnie Riccitelli, Rolando Briseno, & Enrique Fernandez. Carlos subsequently learned harmony and voicing on piano with master pianists Mike Longo, Alfredo Valdes, Jr., and Hilton Ruiz.

Carlos Jimenez has recorded with many musical greats, including Hilton Ruiz, Stephane Ronget, David Schnitter, Edy Martinez, Dave Valentin, Sonny Bravo, Gilberto "El Pulpo" Colon, Ray Martinez, Jorge Maldonado, and Alfredo Valdes, Jr. He is the owner of the independent record label CJMartinete Music Company.
