Business Breakfast with Katie Hood

Description

Presented by Katie Hood, CEO, The One Love Foundation

Talk title: Building a Movement from the Ground Up
Katie Hood is the CEO of the One Love Foundation, a non-profit working to build a national movement to end relationship abuse. The foundation was created to honor Yeardley Love, a UVA senior who was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend in 2010. One Love exists because Yeardley was killed and her death was avoidable if anyone – including her – had understood the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships. Since launching its national educational efforts in 2015, One Love has reached over 135k students with its educational workshop, Escalation, and over 60 million people through its #ThatsNotLove digital campaign. Learn from Katie what it means to build a non-profit start up, and a movement, from the ground up.

More About Katie: Prior to One Love, Katie has extensive experience in the philanthropic and for-profit sectors. At the Michael J. Fox for Parkinson’s Research, she led development of its unique model for impact and as CEO almost doubled fundraising and grant making. She also worked as a philanthropic consultant, advising nonprofits and donors ON HOW to identify their goals and develop operating plans to achieve their objectives. As a visiting lecturer at Duke University, Katie deeply engaged with her students and realized they could do anything they put their minds to. It's her belief--in the power of young people--that drives her work at One Love today. In 2011, Crain’s New York Business selected Katie for its “40 Under 40” list, recognizing New York City’s top business leaders under the age of 40. A graduate of Duke University and Harvard Business School, Katie’s professional experience also includes time at Goldman, Sachs & Co and Bain & Company. She lives outside NYC with her husband and four kids.
