Service Opportunities
Spirituality is not an escape from the complexities and challenges of life; it is a radical engagement with them. Jesus himself once said, "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve; and give His life as a ransom for many." Those who have been on the receiving end of such compassionate service cannot help but serve others in turn.
A spirit of service permeates the Concordia community. It may be as simple as a friendly greeting to a classmate who has had a bad day. But it can also be more involved: many of our students spend one night each month delivering sandwiches and other necessities to those who are homeless and living on the streets of New York City.
The newest Service Opportunity at the College is the Concordia Braille Workers, who produce Bibles for the blind. Students participate in the entire process, from the preparation of the zinc pressing plates to the final assembly of the books. Concordia is the first volunteer site on a Lutheran college campus for the Luther Braille Workers, Inc.
We are always exploring new avenues of service. Can you see yourself volunteering at a local assisted living facility? Or tutoring a child at an after-school program in the Bronx? The possibilities are as limitless as your imagination and initiative.
In ways large and small, God touches the lives of people with hope and love through the efforts of people like you. Let us help you find your own way to make a difference in this world.
