Crossers
by Philip Caputo
"A 'gorgeously stark' novel, set on the Arizona-Mexico border, blending 'the malaise of post-9/11 America and the violence of the Mexican desert…frothing with moral ambiguity and fraught with complicity.'” Publishers Weekly
Author Philip Caputo discusses his latest novel, a multi-generational tale of an investment banker distraught over the loss of his wife on 9/11, who seeks refuge on his family’s Arizona ranch, but encounters conflicts that plague the borderlands--illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and his family’s dark past. Pulitzer Prize-winner Caputo is a former reporter with The Chicago Tribune and the author of seven other works of fiction and two memoirs, including the Vietnam War classic Rumor of War, about his service as a Marine lieutenant.

The Sigfluence Generation: Our Young People’s Potential to Transform America
by John F. Loase
“(Sigfluence) will make a real impact and Dr. Loase is to be commended for his fine work.” Father Richard Dimler, editor of Thought, Fordham University.
Concordia professor Dr. John Loase discusses his latest book on sigfluence, a word he coined in 1984. It means significant, long-term, positive influence. Dr. Loase found that 18-25 year olds have an especially high need to affect sigfluence, and believes that sigfluence is a key concept to positively transform America. A legendary teacher, John Loase is professor of mathematics at Concordia College and holds the only doctorate in mathematics and psychology ever awarded by Columbia University Teachers’ College.
The Books & Coffee program offers community members, students, and faculty the opportunity to discuss topical books with their authors or expert reviewers.
