HISTORICAL NOTE

“Die jährliche Prüfung der Schüler des New Yorker Progymnasiums” (1888, 1889, 1890) (The Annual Examination of the Students of the New Yorker Preparatory School). Each account includes the subjects examined and the name of each student. This record was taken when the school was located at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Brooklyn.

“Das Progymnasium” (1901). (The Preparatory School). This short account records the name of each student that attended the school in Hawthorne, NY. Both of the above listed items were written in German and are located in the record group A-0004-01 Concordia College – History of Hawthorne.

“The Pioneer” (1908). This yearbook is an account of the first graduating class of Concordia. It includes all names of faculty and students along with a write-up of each graduate. This publication was produced on a typewriter and mimeographed. The main body is typed in English with a few entries in German.

The “Mirror” (1909) was professionally composed with photos of the graduates and possibly paid for by advertisements. The majority is written in English with minor entries in German.

“Γ.Σ.” (1910) The format is an exact replica of the previous year.

“Purple & White” (1911) This publications is more elaborate than its predecessors. It contains photos of graduates and faculty, along with various clubs and sports teams as well a variety of pictures of the facility. Articles contain both English and German languages.

“The Echo” (1912) This yearbook matches the format of the previous year.

“The Concordian” During the years 1913 - 1959 the name of Concordia’s yearbooks has remained the same - Whereas between 1955 and 1959 two separate copies of “The Concordian” were produced each year; one told the story of the Preparatory School and the other one of the Junior College.

In addition to “The Concordian” another publication was produced between the years of 1920 and 1940, it was called “Blue and Gold,” which superseded the traditional yearbook for a couple of years. An additional finding aid was created for this collection and can be found in the database under the record group P-0013.

“The Clipper” (1960-1969) This publication recorded the happenings of the Preparatory School.

“The Arcade” (1960 – present) This publication recorded the happenings of the Junior Collage. Due to the closing of the Prep School in 1970 “The Arcade” is the only annually produced yearbook for Concordia College, New York to date.
