HISTORICAL NOTE

The Ladies Aid Society, also referred to as the Concordia Guild, was a service organization to raise scholarship funds and provide support in various areas of Concordia College. The first meeting was held on June 13, 1923 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where fifty ladies joined the newly formed auxiliary. They held a meeting every month, and within the first two years of its existence, the membership increased to 376.

In January 1925, the society adopted projects mainly centered on the students of Concordia Collegiate Institute. It especially chose those unable to go home on the weekends. It provided these students with Sunday night treats including fruit, cakes, ice cream, etc. In May 1929, another project was adopted. An annual scholarship fund was started with $25.00. It was set aside for the most proficient student in the German language.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

An array of records was provided to the archives by Mrs. Lenora Wittrock a former president of the society. These papers were combined with existing material. It is not clear if the collection is complete, since there are no board minutes and/or general information from 1923 until 1942. The minutes as well as financial papers were separated from the general information and the staples were removed. The collection is arranged in a chronological order.
